Iceberg Alley revisited, porcelain, glaze, 300x200x370mm, 2020
Everywhere I go, Bowen Galleries, 2020, exhibited during the Fired Up festival of ceramics in Te Whanganui a Tara Wellington.
Reflecting on the environmental impact of making ceramics, for this exhibition a making restraint was imposed, to only use existing pieces in the studio that had been broken, discarded or hadn’t worked. Recovered, repaired, reconstructed, everything, including the tables, was fired up. A further restraint was to move away from gas firing and to find satisfactory clay and glaze qualities using an electric kiln. Having developed the signature celadon/chun reduction glaze over two decades, it was no small restraint.
